For the Next Lesson – Genesis 9:18-29

  1. Read verses 18-19. According to verse 19, who are the forefathers of every person, every nation, every culture and every race? How does this reality affect the way we see people of other nations and races? How should the implications of this verse mold our view of racism and relationships between races? Do you ever struggle to fear, look down on, understand, form stereotypes or judge people of other races? How so? How might you grow in this area?
  2. Read verses 20-23. What did Noah do? What did Ham do? How did Shem and Japheth respond? How did Noah’s actions lead to and influence the actions of his sons? Why are Ham’s actions to be condemned and seen as reprehensible? What does this verse teach us about the implications and consequences of drunkenness (see also Proverbs 20:1, 23:30-35)? How are you doing in this area? When is it ok to drink alcohol, and what place should alcohol have in our lives as Christians? In your current season of life, how can you be honoring to your parents?
  3. Read verses 24-27. How do you think Noah felt when he woke up? How did Noah respond to Ham’s actions? Did Ham’s actions warrant Noah’s response? Why or why not? How do you respond when someone wrongs you or sins against you? How should you respond?
  4. Read verses 28-29. We will all die some day; the question we should ask ourselves is… what are you living for? What is your driving motivation in life? What will you be known for when you die? What do you want your life to be known for?
  5. So what. What one nugget are you taking from this study that you can to apply to your life?
