study questions:
For the Next Lesson - Genesis 24:29-67
1. Read verses 29-32. Based on these verses, how would you describe the setting or scene? What has already happened in verses 1-28?
2. Read verses 33-48. In these verses the servant describes all that happened earlier in verses 1-27. Why do you think the author Genesis takes the time to write out all these events again when we just read about them? What can we learn from these verses that we need to consider again? Something from the attitude and actions of the servant? Something about God?
3. Read verses 49-61. How did Laban (brother) and Bethuel (father) respond when the servant asked them about Rebekah marrying Isaac in verse 50? What does this response reveal about their attitude toward God and God’s actions? Do you have this same attitude toward God and His decisions for what happens in your life? How did Rebekah respond when asked if she would leave immediately to marry Isaac? What does this reveal about her character and her faith? How would you summarize the events in verses 49-61?
4. Read verses 62-67. How do you think Rebekah felt as she saw her future husband? How do you think Isaac felt? How did Isaac treat Rebekah as his wife according to verse 67? Take some time to read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and Ephesians 5:25-30 and 1 Peter 3:7. What does it look like for a husband to love his wife? How should a godly wife treat her husband (see Ephesians 5:22-24, 33 and 1 Peter 3:1-6)?
5. So what. What is one specific thing you can take away from this passage that applies to your life? A truth about God to remember? An example to follow? A command to obey? An attitude to embrace?
