We find comfort not in the WHY, but in the WHO.
SERMON NOTES:

We find comfort not in the WHY, but in the WHO.

I find comfort in confusion by…

Asking God to show me His power and mercy. (1-2)

Focusing on God’s glory and power. (3-15)

Committing myself to God’s care. (16)

Boasting about my confidence in God alone. (17-19)

study questions:

1. Read verses 1-2. Who is speaking and what is the content of Habakkuk 3 according to verse 1? According to verse 2, what is Habakkuk’s response to God words in chapter 2? What is Habakkuk praying for? When do you think Habakkuk wants this to happen?

2. Note: Verses 3-19 are a song or psalm of praise from Habakkuk.

a. Read verses 3-7. What do you learn about God’s appearance?

b. Read verses 8-11. What do you learn about God’s actions in nature?

c. Read verses 12-15. What do you learn about God’s actions among the nations?

d. Read verse 16. What is Habakkuk’s response to the appearance, actions and character of God? What prevents you from responding to God like Habakkuk?

e. Read verses 17-19. What is the situation Habakkuk is describing in verse 17? What does Habakkuk vow to do in verse 18, and why does verse 17 make this commitment significant? Why is Habakkuk making this vow according to verses 3-15, 19? What do these three verses teach us about Habakkuk’s view of God?

3. So what. Based on your study of Habakkuk 3, do you believe your view of God impacts your relationship with Him and how you go about your life? How so? How has your view of God been influenced? Do you respond to the hard things of life like Habakkuk does in verses 17-19? How can you be more like Habakkuk in your interactions with God amidst the hard things of life?
