For the Next Lesson: 1 Corinthians 6:12-20
1. Warm-up. Is sexual sin a big issue in our culture? Why or why not? How does sexual sin invade our Christian culture? How would you describe and evaluate the damage it causes? What does this tell us about the importance of addressing sexual sin in the church?
2. Read verses 12-14. How do you think the Corinthians used the saying “all things are lawful for me” as a defense for freedom to express their sexuality? How do you think the Corinthian slogan “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food” was used as an argument for freedom to engage in sexual immorality? What is Paul’s argument that sexual immorality is not permissible in the second half of verse 13 and verse 14? Why is this important for us to remember and apply in life?
3. Read verses 15-17. According to these verses what happens when someone engages in sexual immorality? So, why is it important to reserve the sexual relationship for marriage only? How would you explain this to a teenager?
4. Read verses 18-20. What are the two commands given in these verses (vs. 18 and vs. 20)? What insights do these commands give us for how to resist the temptation of sexual immorality? What is the reason for following these commands according to verse 19? Why is this important to remember?
