God’s LOVE and FORGIVENESS is UNFATHOMABLE!
SERMON NOTES:

Hosea 1-3
The prophecy of Hosea is painful! It is painful because its story is all too real in our world! Spurned by his wife, Hosea’s family becomes an object lesson of God’s intense love for His people...for us! If you’ve ever been rejected by another or been the prodigal, Hosea will bring back memories that only God’s grace can heal! Feel the pain of rejection and experience the thrill of reconciliation as we look at Hosea together!

Israel’s INFIDELITY is ILLUSTRATED through...

...the LIFE of HOSEA

...the REJECTION of LOVE...1:1-2:13

...the REDEMPTION of LOVE...3:1-5

God’s LOVE and FORGIVENESS is UNFATHOMABLE!

study questions:

In the book of Hosea, God calls the prophet Hosea to be loving and faithful to a faithless wife. God uses Hosea’s story to teach Israel about how He is faithful even when they are faithless.

1. Read verses 1:1-3. What did God command Hosea to do? What was God’s purpose for this command? Do you think it was fair for God to give Hosea this task? Why or why not? How do you think Hosea felt? What did Hosea do next according to verse 3? How do you respond when God is asking you to do something you don’t want to do?

2. Read verses 1:4-8. What happened next in the lives of Hosea and Gomer? What significance did the names of their children play in this prophecy through Hosea? How do you think Hosea and Gomer felt about their children receiving these names and being used for this purpose? How would you have felt if you were Hosea or Gomer?

3. Read verses 3:1-5. What did God tell Hosea to do next? What do you think happened in the lives of Hosea and Gomer between verses 1:8 and 3:1? How did Hosea respond, and what did he do? What do you think about this situation and what God tells Hosea to do? How does Gomer serve as an illustration for the nation of Israel? What do the actions and heart of Hosea teach us about God?

So What. Do you see yourself in the actions of Gomer toward Hosea or Israel toward God? Why or why not? What do you learn about God that affects your relationship with Him? If you are married, how does your study of Hosea challenge you in how you relate to your spouse?
