John 9:1-41
Jesus gives sight to a lifelong blind man. (1-12)
The Pharisees seek to discredit Jesus’ healing of the blind man. (13-34)
Jesus emphasizes the importance of everyone recognizing their spiritual need. (35-41)
Life Lessons:
We are all desperately needy.
When we truly recognize the significance of what Jesus does for us, we worship.
study questions:
Begin this study by reading straight through all of John 9:1-41 out loud. Make sure to pay close attention to the details. Did you notice any ideas or words that were repeated? Who is the main character? What is the theme or main idea? What is the tone or feel of the various interactions? What other thoughts or observations do you have?
1. How did the neighbors respond to Jesus healing the blind man? See verses 8-12. How do you think the neighbors were feeling about this situation?
2. How did the Pharisees respond to Jesus healing the blind man? See verses 13-17, 24-34. Why do you think the Pharisees responded this way? How were they feeling about this situation?
3. How did the parents respond to Jesus healing their son? See verses 18-23. Why did they respond this way? What emotions do you think these parents were experiencing?
4. How did the blind man respond to being healed? See verses 11, 15, 25, 27, 30-33, 35-39. What are the final words recorded from the former blind man in verse 38? What are the final words recorded about the former blind man in verse 38? What do we learn about this man’s heart from verse 38 and throughout this account?
5. So what? As you walk through life with Jesus, how do you respond to him? Like the neighbors? The Pharisees? The Parents? The former blind man? Would you describe your heart and lifestyle as one that is worshipful? How so? How can you grow in worshiping God through your attitude and lifestyle?
