study questions:
For the Next Lesson – Genesis 41:1-57
1. Read verses 1-7. The events in this chapter occur “two whole years” after what other events? What was life for Joseph like for those two years? What feelings and emotions do you think he was experiencing? What was going on with Pharaoh that sets the stage for the rest of the chapter?
2. Read verses 8-13. How was Pharaoh affected by his dreams? Why do you think the cupbearer remembered Joseph after 2 years had passed?
3. Read verses 14-36. How did Joseph respond to Pharaoh when initially asked about interpreting dreams (vs. 16)? How else can we see Joseph’s attitude toward God and interpreting the dreams (vv. 28, 32) What can we learn from Joseph’s statements and his attitude? Do you have a similar attitude toward God, yourself and various situations in life? How so?
4. Read verses 37-45. What did Pharaoh recognize about Joseph in verse 38? Why is this important? How did Pharaoh act upon his observations and conclusions about Joseph? As New Testament Christians, how do we also have the same advantage as Joseph as we walk through life (John 14:16-17, 26; 15:26; 16:7)?
5. Read verses 46-57. What happened next in Egypt over the next 14 years? How did Joseph manage Egypt, and what were the results? What does this situation teach us about the wisdom of God?
6. So what. What truth, promise or reality have you learned or been reminded about that you can apply to your life today?
