For the Next Lesson - Genesis 22:1-24

.Read verses 1-2. What did God ask Abraham to do? Why was God asking Abraham to do this? Take a few moments to consider and list the reasons why this would have been hard for Abraham. How do you feel about what God was doing with Abraham and Isaac?

.Read verses 3-8. How did Abraham respond to God’s instructions (vs. 3)? How do you think Abraham was feeling as he responded? How old do you think Isaac was during these events (notice vs. 6)? What was going on with Isaac as they climbed the mountain? How did Abraham respond to him (see vs. 8)?

.Read verses 9-14. What did Abraham do when they got to the top of the mountain? Do you think Isaac went along willingly with this process? Why or why not? Do you think Abraham would have gone through with sacrificing his son? Would you? How did God intervene? What did Abraham call the name of the place? Why is this significant? If you truly believed God provides in all circumstances, how would your life be changed?

.Read verses 15-20. Take a few moments to compare God’s promises here and in Genesis 12:1-3. What are the similarities and differences? Would the reminder of God’s promises have encouraged Abraham? How so? Does remembering God’s promises encourage you? What promises are most encouraging for you?

.So what. What is the primary theme of this passage? How does this theme apply specifically to your life today?
