For the Next Lesson – 2 Timothy 2:1-7

1.Read verse 1. What is the command in this verse? Why is this command important? How can a person live out this command, and what must happen for this command to be followed? See also John 15:5; Ephesians 3:14-16, 6:10 and 2 Timothy 2:1, 3:16. How are you doing in living out this command? How can you improve?

2.Read verse 2. What is the command in this verse? How many generations of Christians are represented in this one verse? Why is this important to recognize? What does it look like to live out this verse? From whom did you receive the Good News of Jesus Christ? Who has mentored you spiritually? To whom are you giving the Gospel? Who are you mentoring spiritually? Should you be actively sharing the Gospel and mentoring others spiritually? Why or why not?

3.Read verses 3-6. What is the one command given in these verses? How does the example of a soldier help us to understand how to follow this command? The athlete? The farmer? Why do you think Paul gives three different examples to help explain how to follow this command? Are you following this command? Why or why not?

4.Read verse 7. What is the command in this verse? What is the promise? Take some time to follow this command and thoughtfully consider what you have studied in verses 1-6. Which of these commands do you need to focus on? What example encourages you? What principle to you need to apply? What promise do you need to embrace? Take time to share your take away as you think through this passage and how it specifically applies to your life. Make sure to follow through with each other to provide encouragement and accountability as together we follow Christ.
