For the Next Lesson – Genesis 50:15-26

  1. Read verses 15-17. Why were Joseph’s brothers afraid? Do you think they should have been afraid based on the history with their brother? Why or why not? What did the brothers do in response to their fear? How did Joseph respond, and why do you think he responded this way? What fears do you struggle with in your life? How do you handle them?
  2. Read verses 18-19. What did the brothers do next? What does Joseph’s statement in verse 19 tell us about his heart? Consider Joseph’s response to his brothers and Romans 12:19. When we are wronged by others, how should we respond? What is God’s role, and what is our role? How can you apply this to your life?
  3. Read verses 20-21. What can you learn about God from Joseph’s words in verse 20? Is it hard for you to have an attitude like Joseph when hard things happened in your life? Why or why not? As you consider verse 20 and Romans 8:28, how can you cultivate an attitude of trusting God to work things for good even when things are difficult?
  4. Read verses 22-26. What does Joseph say twice about God as he faces death? Why do we need to remember this same truth about God as we walk through life? Where specifically in your life do you need to remember this?
  5. So what. What is one truth about God that you can take away from these verses that helps you to trust Him more?
