For the Next Lesson – Genesis 27:46-28:22

.Read verses 27:46-28:4. As you consider verses 27:41-46, what motivated Rebekah to send her son Jacob to her relatives in Haran? How did Isaac respond, and what do you notice about Isaac’s blessing for Jacob? How does this blessing Compare to God’s words to Abram in Genesis 12:2-3? Why is this important, and what does this teach us about God and his promises?

.Read verses 28:5-9. What did Esau do while Jacob was on his journey to Haran? Note that Esau first married Hittite/Canaanite women (26:34-25). As you consider the interactions with his father in chapter 27 and what Jacob was doing, why do you think Esau married a woman from his extended family?

.Read verses 28:10-15. What happened to Jacob on his way to Haran? What promises did God make to Jacob? How do these promises compare to the promises made to Jacob’s grandfather Abraham (Genesis 17:6-8) and father Isaac (Genesis 22:15-18)? What are the common elements to the promises God made to each of these three patriarchs? Do you think Jacob had heard about these promises to his father and grandfather and remembered them during this interaction with God? Why or why not? How does God remind you of his faithfulness and promises?

.Read verse 28:16-22. How did Jacob feel, and what did he say about God after their interaction? What three things did Jacob do in response to God? What would it look like for you to respond to God in these same three ways? Do you respond to God like Jacob?Should you? How so?

.So what. Would you say that you have a high view of God? How so? How do you think your view of God needs to grow, and how can you accomplish this? Do your heart, actions and attitude in daily life reflect this view of God? Why or why not? How can you grow in living in a way that reflects your view of God?
