Abram’s Story, Our Story
Genesis 12:10-13:4
Just like Abram, God continually loves and restores us.
Abram lived by faith, we do too. (12:1-9)
Abram behaved foolishly; we do too. (12:10-16)
God loved Abram; God loves us too. (12:17-20)
Abram returned to God; we can too. (13:1-4)
study questions:
For the Next Lesson - Genesis 12:10-13:4
1. Read verses 12:10-13. What caused Abram to go to Egypt? What was Abram’s plan for his wife Sarai? What do you think about Abram’s plan? How do you think Abram got to a place that he was willing to treat his wife like this? What do you think motivated him to do this?
2.Read verses 12:14-17. How did the Egyptians respond when they saw Sarai? What happened to Sarai? How did Abram benefit from this series of events? How do you think Sarai and Abram were feeling in general and toward one another during these experiences in Egypt? How did God respond? How does this show that God is keeping His promises to Abram (see Genesis 12:1-3)?
3. Read verses 12:18-20. How did Pharaoh respond to the realization that he had just taken Abram’s wife as his wife? What did Abram take with him when Pharaoh sent him on his way? Why do you think Pharaoh did this?
4.Read verses 13:1-4. Where did Abram go next, and what was his financial situation? What did Abram do in Bethel, and why do you think he did this? What do you think Abram was feeling and experiencing in his relationship with Sarai and with God?
5. So what. Considering all we know about Abram beginning in Genesis 11:27, what is your opinion of Abram? How would you describe him? Can you see yourself in Abram and his struggles as he walks through life? How so? What is one thing you can take away from this passage that applies to your life?
