study questions:
For the Next Lesson – Genesis 14:1-24
1. Read verses 1-12. What happened according to this summary of events in verses 1-3? While there are many details that are hard to follow in verses 4-12, what would have been most interesting to Abram (see vs. 12)? Why do you think he would have cared given the events of ch. 13?
2. Read verses 13-16. How did Abram respond to the news that his nephew had been abducted? How far did he travel to rescue Lot? Who participated with Abram to rescue Lot?
3. Read verses 17-20. Who came out to meet Abram as he was returning from his rescue mission? What was Sodom and their king like (see 13:13)? What did the king of Salem do, and what do you learn about Him? What did the king of Salem say about God and Abram? How did Abram respond? What does this response teach us about Abram?
4. Read verses 21-24. What did the king of Sodom want Abram to do (hint: it has something to do with the spoils Abram earned saving Lot and others from the Kings from the east)? How did Abram respond? What do you think caused Abram to respond this way? How did Abram’s faith help him to respond this way?
5. So what. Abram had great success and recognized God was behind his success. What things have gone well for you in life? Do you typically take the credit for your successes or attribute them to God? How so and why? How can you grow in your recognition and gratitude for the blessings and successes that God brings into your life?
