study questions:
For the Next Lesson - Genesis 15:1-6
1. Read verse 1. How did God communicate with Abram? What command did God give to Abram? How does this command apply to your life? If you could perfectly obey this command, how would your life change? How can you grow in obeying this command? What promises did God make to Abram, and what do they mean? How do these promises apply to you? If you perfectly believed these promises, how would your life change?
2. Read verses 2-3. How would you summarize Abram’s response to God? Why do you think Abram responded this way? Fear, doubt, hurt, confusion, something else? Do you ever struggle in a similar way in your walk with God? How so?
3. Read verses 4-5. What did God promise Abram? Why do you think God took Abram outside to look at the stars? Do you ever need God to “overcommunicate” with you so that you will fully understand and believe something? How so?
4. Read verse 6. What does this verse mean for Abram’s salvation? Why is this verse so important for us as New Testament Christ-followers (see Romans 4:20-25 and Galatians 3:5-9)? As Christians, how then should we relate to and/or see Abram?
5. So what. What one thing can you take away from this passage that applies to your life? Commandment to obey? Promise to embrace? Spiritual reality to appreciate and enjoy?
