study questions:

For the Next Lesson – 1 Peter 1:3-5

Warm-up. What things in your life can cause you to feel discouraged, overwhelmed or even hopeless? What usually helps you in these times of discouragement?

Read verses 3-5. These verses are centered around the reality that God “has caused us to be born again”. Answer the following questions about being born again.

1.What should our response be to being born again? What does this look like in real, everyday life? Do you consistently respond like this to God? Why or why not?

2.What is God’s motivation for causing us to be born again? What part do we play in being born again according to these verses? What did Jesus do to make our salvation a reality? How do you feel about these realities concerning your salvation?

3.These verses teach us that we are born again “to a living hope” and “to an inheritance”. What makes our hope alive? Why is this significant? What can we learn from verses 4-5 about our inheritance? How and who protects our inheritance? How do these realities about our inheritance bring us security when we are feeling insecure?

Summarize. How would you summarize this passage in your own words?

So what. What are you taking away from this passage that causes you to praise God? How can the truths from this passage help when you are feeling discouraged, overwhelmed or hopeless?
