study questions:
For the Next Lesson: Genesis 1:1-31
1. Take a few minutes to read all of Genesis 1:1-31 out loud. What sticks out to you as you read it? What repetition of key words or phrases can you find (there are at least four)? What is the significance of these words or phrases? Why do you think God had Moses record the historical account of God creating the world for the Hebrew nation as they were on the brink of entering the Promised Land? What is your impression of God from these verses?
2. How does God go about creating the earth and its inhabitants (see vv. 3,6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24)? How do you think God can pull this off? What does this teach us about God’s power? Do you often think about the limitless, unfathomable power of God? Why or why not? Why do you think it would be important to consider and think about God’s power?
3. Take some time to review each day of creation. What did God create on each day? What do you think it would have been like to be there as God created the earth and everything on it? Which day of creation do you think would have been most exciting? Why? What was God’s opinion of all He created?
4. So what? Why do you think God included the creation account in the Bible? What can we learn about God? What can we learn about how we should interact with God’s creation? What can we learn about how we should interact with God? What is one thing you can take away from your study of Genesis 1 that applies to your life?
