study questions:
1. Read 1 Peter 1:14-16. What are the two commands given in this passage? What does Peter mean by “passions of your former ignorance” (“former lusts”, “evil desires” or something similar in different translations)? What does it mean to be “holy”? According to this passage, why should we be holy? How will your life and your relationships be affected if you pursue holiness?
Read 2 Peter 1:21. Who is the author of the Bible? How does the authorship of the Bible affect the way you see the Bible? Why is the authorship of the Bible important to the way you live and for your perspective on holiness? Why else is the authorship of the Bible important?
2. Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17. How is the Bible useful (verse 16)? How would you explain in your own words how the Bible is useful? What is a purpose of the Bible (verse 17)? If you really believed the assertions about the Bible in these verses, what would be your perspective of the Bible? How have you experienced the Bible making an impact in your life? How does the Bible help you to “be holy”?
3. Read Hebrews 4:12. What do you learn about the Bible in this verse? Do you expect the Bible to accomplish these things in you when you read and study it? Why or why not? Based on what you learn in this verse, what role should the Bible have in your life?
4. So what? On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest), how would you rate your pursuit of holiness? Where do you have room for growth in your pursuit of holiness? How would you describe the role of the Bible in your life? Do you need to integrate the Bible more into your life? Why or why not? What is one thing you can take away from this study that applies directly to your life?
