study questions:
For the Next Lesson – Genesis 8:1-22
1. Read verses 1-4. What two things did God do in verse 1? What happened as a result of God’s actions as explained in verses 1-4? How does God remember you? The Ark found a resting place after 5 months (150 days) floating on the waters (see 7:11 and 8:4). How do God’s actions provide a resting place for you? Do you take advantage of the resting places God provides for you? How so?
2. Read verses 5-14. How many days did Noah wait after the Ark rested on the mountain before he opened the window? Do you think you would/could have waited this long to open a window after being crammed into the Ark with so many animals for 150 days? How did Noah determine if the land a dried up? If you consider verses 7:11 & 8:14 and 30 days per month, how many total days were Noah, his family and the animals on the ark? What do you think this experience would have been like, and how do you think they passed the time? Is waiting for God’s timing hard for you? How so? What is a specific example of when you had to wait on God’s timing? How did it turn out?
3. Read verses 15-18. What did God tell Noah to do? How did Noah respond? What do you think it felt like, looked like and smelled like as everything and everyone exited the Ark?
4. Read verses 19-22. What is the first thing Noah did after exiting the Ark? How did God respond? Do you have a heart to appreciate and worship God like Noah did? How do you express your appreciation and worship of God in your life? Take a few minutes to brainstorm practical ways you can both appreciate and worship God this week.
