The Lord said… get on the boat! (1-4)
Noah did… as he was told. (5-9)
The flood came… just like God said. (10-16)
The flood continued… and wiped out EVERYTHING and EVERYBODY! (17-24)

study questions:
For the Next Lesson – Genesis 7:1-24
1. Read verses 1-4. What were the two commands that God gave to Noah in these verses? Who is supposed to “go” into the ark with Noah? What is Noah to “take” into the ark with them? Why did God instruct Noah to take more of the “clean” animals than the “unclean” animals (see also Deuteronomy 14:3-21)? Why did Noah need to follow these instructions (see vs. 4)? God gave Noah a reason for His commands, but does God always give us reasons for His commands? Do we need to know why God is telling us to do something? Why or why not?
2. Read verses 5. What was Noah’s response to God’s instructions? Read verse 6:22. Why do you think God tells us twice in just a few verses that Noah was fully obedient? Read 1 John 2:3, 5:3. Why is obedience important for each of us in our personal walk with God?
3. Read verses 6-16. What specifically did Noah do in these verses? What did God do? Take some time to list out all the actions of God you see in these verses. What do these actions teach or remind us about God? What do the actions of both Noah and God teach us about how to walk and interact with God in our lives today?
4. Read verses 17-24. What happened next to the ark and its passengers? How would you summarize the extent of the flood, and how deep did it get? How does the Flood explain the presence of the fossils (which are produced by a catastrophic event, not slow death and decay) all over the world? How does the flood explain the evidence of oceans in arid and dry locations like Texas? Who was left after the floods began to subside? How is the flood a picture of how God saves us now through Jesus Christ? How can this historical account from Genesis help you to be thankful for your salvation?
5. So what. What have you learned or been reminded about from this passage that applies to your life? Is there a command to obey? An example to follow? A truth about God to embrace? A promise to claim?
