study questions:

For the Next Lesson – Philippians 2:5-11

1. Read verse 5. What “mind” is Paul talking about here (see verses 1-4)? How is this mind “yours in Christ Jesus” (again consider verses 1-4)? Do you believe that you truly have the “mind” that Paul is talking about here? Why or why not? How can you increasingly have this “mind”?

2. Read verses 6-8. What do we learn about Jesus in these verses? How is Christ’s attitude described? What actions did Christ’s attitude produce? Why is it so significant that Jesus was willing to be born, live and die as a human being? How can Christ’s example help us to have the same “mind” Paul is talking about in verse 5? How should we respond with our heart and actions to Jesus Christ’s supreme example of humility?

3. Read verses 9-11. What action does God take on behalf of Jesus? Take some time to consider all the different groups who will submit to Jesus Christ. How can this reality encourage you in your walk with God? How can this reality help you want to praise God? Based on these verses, how can you personally bring glory to God in your life?

4. So what. First, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being perfect), how would you rate how closely the humility in your life matches the humility of Jesus? What can you do to grow in this area? Second, do you live in active submission to God? Are there any areas of your life that are not in active submission to God? What do you need to do about this?
