For the Next Lesson – Philippians 2:12-18

.Read verse 12. What is the “therefore” referencing (see verses 5-8)? What does it mean to “work out your own salvation”? Is this referencing initial salvation, or more the idea of how to live out your salvation (Christian life)? What do “fear and trembling” mean, and how do “fear and trembling” affect the way we work out our salvation? Are you actively working out your salvation with fear and trembling? How so?

.Read verse 13. Who or what enables you to work out your salvation? What is the goal of working out your salvation? How does this really work in everyday life, and what does it look like? Why is this vital to our walk with God?

.Read verses 14-16. What is the command in this passage? According to these verses, why is following this command so important? How are you doing in following this command in your life?

.Read verses 17-18. How would you describe Paul’s attitude in your own words? Consider also Romans 12:1, 2 Timothy 4:6 and Philippians 1:18b-26. Do you share this same attitude? What keeps you from adopting this same attitude and perspective on life? How can you cultivate a similar attitude?

.So what. What is your big take-away from this passage that applies directly to your life?
