God’s love is the only thing that makes life worth living.


God lovingly gives us a new identity. (17)

For the Next Lesson – 2 Corinthians 5:17-21

1. Warm-up – What is an identity? In what ways do people find identity and value? Why is it that people are always looking for ways to identify themselves and find value?

2. Read verse 17. What does it mean to be “in Christ”? What is true of anyone that is “in Christ”? How does God make Christians new? See also John 3:6-8, Romans 6:4, Titus 3:5. What is new about someone who is “in Christ”? What does this verse teach us about our identity as Christians? From where should a Christian draw their identity, and why does this matter? How is understanding our identity important to our daily walk through life? From where do you find your identity?

3. Read verses 18-19. Who is the source of all creation, including making us a new creation, and why is this important? How has Christ reconciled us to himself (see also Romans 5:10-11)? Why is being reconciled so important, and what are the benefits? What is the message of reconciliation that God entrusts to us? How is this concept of reconciliation a central theme in Christianity?

4. Read verse 20. In general, what are an ambassador’s responsibilities? What are our responsibilities as ambassadors for Christ? Who are we representing? Who are we relating to? What is our message? Why is all of this so important? Are you embracing your role as an ambassador? What would it look like if you treated your home like it n embassy for the king of Kings with you as the ambassador?

5. Read verse 21. What did Christ do for us on the Cross? See also Isaiah 53:4-6, Hebrews 4:15, Romans 5:17 and Philippians 5:17. What does it mean that are made righteous? Why is this so important? Do you embrace your righteousness given to you through Jesus Christ?
