For the Next Lesson: 1 Corinthians 3:1-15
1. Read verses 1-3. How did Paul to speak to the Corinthians, and why? What did Paul feed them and why? What do you think Paul means when he says “flesh” (see also Romans 8:1-8)? What happens when we live according to the flesh, and who are we behaving like?
2. Read verses 4-7. According to these verses, what do you think was causing the jealousy and dissension in Corinth? How would you restate or summarize Paul’s statements from these verses? Do we, as people in the 21st century, ever face similar issues to what the Corinthian Christians were facing? How so?
3. Read verses 8-11. What is the foundation for everything we do? Why was this important for the Corinthians to remember? What foundation do you think they were trying to build upon? How do we try to build on other foundations? What happens when we do?
4. Read verses 12-15. What “Day” is Paul talking about in verse 13? What will happen on that Day? Why was Paul reminding the Corinthians about that Day? Why is it important for us to remember what will happen on that Day? How could thinking about that Day influence how we live now?
5. So what. Do you feel like you struggle with any of the “fleshly” immaturity Paul describes in this passage? Why or why not? Are you ready for the “Day” Paul describes here? How can you be more prepared?
