For the Next Lesson: 1 Corinthians 15:1-19

1. Read verses 1-2. What did Paul want to remind the Corinthians about? What four things does Paul point out that are true about the Gospel in relation to the Corinthians? Why do you think Paul focuses on the Gospel in these verses directly after 3 chapters chastising them about their infatuation with tongues? What role should the Gospel play in our lives? How are we “being saved” by the Gospel each day?

2. Read verse 3-8. What does Paul point out as the three key aspects of the Gospel? Why are each of these aspects important? What proof does Paul provide for the literal, physical resurrection of Jesus from the dead? Is this evidence credible? Why or why not? How does Paul see himself? What do verses 9-11 teach us about how we should see ourselves? Is this hard to do? Why or why not?

3. Read verses 12-14. Based on verse 12, what issue is Paul addressing with the Corinthians? Paul uses three “if, then” statements to make a point. In your own words, what is Paul’s line of reasoning, and what point is he trying to make? What does Paul say is true for Christians if Christ has not been raised from the dead?

4. Read verses 15-19. Paul again uses three “if, then” statements in these verses. How would you explain his line of reasoning for these verses in your own words? If Christ has not been raised from the dead, what is true for us as Christians? In contrast, since Christ has been raised from the dead, what are some realities about our lives as Christians that are important to remember? Which of these realities seems most meaningful for you? How so?

5. So what. If someone were to ask you, “Why is it so important to believe Jesus was raised from the dead?”, what would you say? Can a person be a Christian and not believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ? Why or why not? What is one truth about how the resurrection of Jesus affects your life that you can thank God for and meditate on this week?
