- Read Isaiah 9:6. What does the word “wonderful” mean? What does the word “counselor” mean? Take a minute to think about all the ways the words “counsel” and “counselor” are used in our culture and list them out. Therefore, how would you define in our own words the title “Wonderful Counselor” given here in Isaiah for Jesus? How can God be the Wonderful Counselor in our lives?
- Read Psalm 19:7-11. The Bible is a primary way God gives us wise counsel for life. List out all of the different descriptions of God’s Word from these verses. List out all the different benefits of God’s Word. Which of these descriptions and benefits sticks out most to you and why? According to verse 10, what value should we put on God’s Word? What are the results of following God’s counsel according verse 11? Why are the results important to remember?
- Read John 14:26. What role does the Holy Spirit play in our lives? Why is this role important? Does the Holy Spirit’s role also serve as a “Wonderful Counselor” for us? How so?
- So what. As you consider these passages, what about Jesus being the “Wonderful Counselor” encourages you the most? How can you improve in how you both understand and follow the counsel of Jesus? What do you think the benefits will be in your life if you more fully embrace Jesus as your Wonderful Counselor?
