Mighty God

Isaiah 9:6

Trusting in God’s power gives us the opportunity to be free from fear.


God has power over nature. (Colossians 1:16-17)


God has power over all people. (Psalm 118:5-9)


God has power over circumstances. (Acts 17:26, Romans 8:28)


God has power over our limitations. (Proverbs 20:9, 2 Peter 1:3, Philippians 4:12-13)

For the Next Lesson – Mighty God

  1. Read Isaiah 9:6. When you read the words “Mighty God” what comes to mind? What do these two words teach us about the nature and character of Jesus? Why do you think this title or name is included in this list of four names for Jesus? Why is it important for us to recognize that Jesus is “Mighty God” (see also Colossians 1:19)? How would our lives be changed if Jesus was not truly the Mighty God of the universe
  2. Read John 1:1-3. What do you learn about the power and might of Jesus in these verses? When and how has Jesus demonstrated His power? Why is it important to recognize when and how Jesus has used His power?
  3. Read Jeremiah 32:17, Ephesians 3:20-21 and Matthew 19:26. What are the limits of Jesus’ power? How do each of these verses explain these limits? Why is it important that we understand the extent of Jesus’ power?
  4. So what. How should the might and power of Jesus influence your relationship with Him and affect your faith in Him (see also Psalm 20:7 and Isaiah 31:1)? What is one way you can ask God to demonstrate his power in your life this week? Where in your life do you need the power of God?
