How can we cultivate a life of worship?
study questions:
1. Read verses 1-4. After defeating the Philistines as recorded in 2 Samuel 5:17-25, what does David do next? Why is the “ark of God” so important to David? (See Exodus 25:10-22, Joshua 3.) What do David’s actions reveal about his heart? What can we learn about David’s attitude towards God?
2. Read verses 5-15. What happened while transporting the “ark of God”? Why do you think God did this? How did David respond? What do you think David was feeling and thinking during and immediately after this incident? What caused David to continue with his plan to transport the “ark of God” to Jerusalem? Why do you think David was able to worship God so freely during the second part of the ark’s journey?
3. Read verses 16-23. In these verses we see some marital conflict between David and his first wife Michal. What did Michal observe David doing in verses 16-19? How did she respond in verses 20? What did David tell Michal in response to her accusations? What do we learn here about David’s commitment to God?
4. So what? Based on this chapter, what one word would you use to describe David? What about David in these verses provides us with a good example for how to follow God? What is one thing you can take away from this passage that applies directly to your life?
