study questions:

Philippians 2:19-30

1. Read verses 19-22. For what purpose does Paul want to send Timothy to the Philippians? Notice Paul says, “I have no one like him.” From what you can glean in these verses, what causes Paul to say this? How would you describe Timothy’s heart in your own words? Would you say that you have a heart like Timothy’s? Why or why not?

2. Read verses 23-24. What is Paul’s current situation (see 1:12-14)? What seems to be Paul’s attitude toward his situation? How is Paul’s faith affecting his attitude? Do you share a common attitude and faith when life is hard and uncertain? Why or why not?

3. Read verses 25-28. How does Paul describe Epaphroditus, and what is the significance of each of these descriptions? Could someone use these same words to describe you? How so? What was the situation with Epaphroditus, and how did everyone respond? What do these responses teach us about their relationships with each other? Do you have relationships like this? Where do you need to cultivate relationships like this?

4. Read verses 29-30. What instructions does Paul give to the Philippians? Why do you think he gives this instruction? How do you live this out in your life?

So what. What is your big take-way from these verses that applies to your life?
