Walking Away from it all!

Genesis 4:1-16

Condition of Man - Your Condition

1. Thinks he can save himself, but is totally incapable.

2. Desperate to control, but is being controlled by his decisions and actions.

3. Longing for acceptance, but unable to have relationship.

God's Position with Man

1. Only one capable of saving man and He alone does all of it.

2. Ready to accept us at all times and tells us so.

3. Does not walk away from relationship, He presses into them.

For the Next Lesson: Genesis 4:1-16

1. Warm-up. How would you define jealousy, and have you ever seen somebody you know really struggle with being jealous? Have you ever struggled with being jealous? How so?


2. Read verses 1-7. Who are the main characters in this story, and what do you know about them? How did God respond to their offerings? How did Cain feel about God’s response? What do you think about Cain’s attitude? Put into your own words what God said to Cain in verses 6-7. What was God teaching Cain?


3. Read verse 8-9. What did Cain do to his brother? Read James 4:1-2. What motivated Cain to act in this way? What did Cain say when God questioned him about Abel? What does Cain’s response reveal about his heart?


4. Read verses 11-15. What consequences did God give to Cain? What did Cain think about these consequences? How did the situation for Cain end?


5. So what. Do you ever struggle with any of the same attitudes that challenged Cain? How so? How do you respond when God corrects you? Do you have a heart that is teachable and open to God’s correction? Why or why not? How can you grow in being your “brother’s keeper”, and what does it look like to be your “brother’s keeper”?
